This project, A Year of Meals, consists of daily posts about a meal I had the day before, and includes glimpses and reflections into my life as a midwife, wife and human. It also serves as a love letter to my beloved husband Kevin (aka My Love, or, My Guy) who pestered me to start this thing.
Dinner was a bowl of granola topped with our own (!) blueberries. (Or was it blueberries supported by granola?) I was trying to talk myself into making a little dinner for myself and Kevin, but had this niggling voice that kept saying things like, no, a sausage is too heavy, making coleslaw takes too long, you need to eat now! So I had my twice yearly bowl of cereal while sitting on the couch next to Kevin as he pondered the fate of the world through the lens of his phone. As soon as I was done with my floating dinner, I hopped up off the couch, unable to sit still for a second longer. My whole body (and the niggling voice) said “Time to Move!” As I got into the car I texted my barely cramping client that I was heading her way. She texted back”Come on over. Cramps are very gradually getting stronger.” When I arrived 45 minutes later, her sweet baby had beat me there by 2 minutes. The rest is all a blur.
Later, when we were chatting, my beloved client said she thought it was funny that I was heading to her when I did since nothing much was going on at that point. Ha! Midwife Spidey Sense for the win, or close anyway.
For dinner, Kevin fed himself something. I have no idea what. I do know that he was glad to have me slip into the marital bed some time after midnight and stay there for the duration of the night.
